Credit Unions & Government Shutdowns
In the wake of a government shutdown, you may be wondering how you're federally insured funds might be impacted. If you are a federal employee, you may have additional concerns about the financial impact you may experience.
Individual deposits at federal credit unions like Chattanooga First Federal Credit Union are insured by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) for up to $250,000 before, during and after any government shutdown. NCUA operations are not funded through congressional budget appropriations which means the NCUA will continue to operate business as usual.
